At this point, LSU Beach Volleyball coach Russell Brock should just move to St. Tammany Parish.
The coach of the top-ranked collegiate beach volleyball program in the country, the Tigers head coach added yet another product from St. Tammany Parish with the signing of Madison Meyers out of Mandeville on Wednesday.
“Our philosophy is that we want to find the best kids in Louisiana and when we find them, know them and they fit our family and culture we want to make sure we do everything we can to convince them to come help this program continue to improve,” Brock said. “Madison has been coming to camps and clinics pretty much since the inception of the program. She knows our history better than most people. It just makes a ton of sense to have a player like Madison in our program.”
Meyers joins a slew of players from the north shore on the Sandy Tigs squad, joining Hailey Cabeceiras, Tatum Ballard and Macey Migliore on the current LSU roster.
“A lot familiar and friendly faces will be there,” she said. “I grew up playing with a lot of them and can’t wait to do it again on the collegiate level.”
The 5-8 Meyers was named a first team District MVP on the hard court, helping lead St. Scholastica Academy to district championships in 2017 and 2018. On the sand, she has earned top-three beach finishes at AAU Nationals, as well as the P1440 Nationals. In addition, Meyers has been named as a P1440 Rising Star.
Committed to LSU since the beginning of her sophomore year at St. Scholastica, Meyers said the signing with the Tigers was a long time coming.
“I honestly never thought I would get here and to this point,” Meyers said of her signing date. “I think it finally is starting to become real. When I put that pen to paper, that just means I’m that much closer to putting on the purple and gold.
“The coaching staff at LSU is the best of the best and the environment is second-to-none. It’s one big giant family and I’m so excited to be there. Add to that, I grew up being an LSU fan my entire life and I cannot wait to represent my family in the purple and gold. I was getting interest from other schools, but I always knew I wanted to come to Baton Rouge.”
During her three-plus years of being committed to the Tigers, Meyers has seen the emergence of the LSU Beach Volleyball program. Starting from scratch, the Tigers have now emerged as one of the nation’s best, garnering the top-ranking in the country last season before its season ended because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s been so fun to see the program transform,” she said. “When I started playing this sport seriously, beach volleyball was not a big thing. It was just for fun. Now, I go to practice and there are so many little girls that want to do what I do. A lot of that has to do with the success LSU has had. I can’t wait to make my contribution to that.”
